Man Utd ‘not seriously considering’ Harry Kane as fee would be ‘astronomical’
Manchester United will not buy Harry Kane this summer because the cost will be prohibitive for a player who turns 30 this summer.
Kane has already scored 20 Premier League goals this season and United would undoubtedly benefit from his finishing prowess, intelligence and experience but United are ‘not seriously considering’ a move, according to various sources.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has tweeted: ‘News #Kane: Been told that #MUFC is not seriously considering a transfer of Kane at this stage. The total financial package should be too expensive for the 29 y/o. #Osimhen is more attractive for ManUtd. And: No hot contact between Bayern & Kane at the moment.’
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is just 24 and clearly a brilliant prospect but United will face serious competition from across Europe.
Rio Ferdinand said on Monday: “I reckon Chelsea this summer go for Osimhen. Man United are going for Harry Kane. Harry Kane isn’t going to Chelsea from Spurs, no chance.
“He is at Spurs, who want to win trophies. They can’t, they don’t. Since the Champions League final, they have gone backwards in terms of the way they are playing and closeness to winning things. They are nowhere near it.
“But you have to ask him the question, that is the questioning we need answering from him. Tell us man, “I want to be a one club man, I want to have the statue outside, I’m Mr Spurs”. We will all say, well played, that’s fine. But there is a chance to come here now, to Man United.
“I would love him to, but the problem you have got is Levy, what price is he going to ask for.”
The price – according top Athletic journalist and transfer guru David Ornstein – would be ‘astronomical’.
He said on Sky Sports: “From conversations I have had it has been made very clear to me that Tottenham are fully focused on attempting to renew Harry Kane’s contract.
“They are determined that they will get that deal signed. I don’t think a new offer has been put to him but early dialogue has begun. Nothing is advanced yet.
“Even if that means going into his final year, Spurs will continue to try and tie him down for longer.
“I sense it would take something astronomical, even with a year to go, to prize him away from Tottenham and Daniel Levy because they know the value of him to them vs any replacement they can get in world football.”
