Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain have both made offers to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to reports in Spain.

The Red Devils are currently desperate to sign a new striker in the January transfer window with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club by mutual consent in November.

However, Man Utd also have their eyes firmly fixed on the upcoming summer window with Erik Ten Hag having just Marcus Rashford and injury-prone Anthony Martial to call on up front.

And reports in Spain are now linking Benzema – who is out of contract in the summer – with a free transfer to Man Utd after Real Madrid would only offer the France international a new one-year deal.

Spanish publication Nacional claim that talks between Benzema’s representatives and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez are ‘paralysed’ as he ‘deeply risks losing’ his star striker.

Benzema currently holds the Ballon d’Or title after scoring 44 goals in 46 matches last term and he’ll be able to talk to other clubs from January 1.

The Frenchman currently has ‘two offers on the table’ from Man Utd and PSG with the Red Devils ‘looking for a new offensive reference’.

Nacional add that Man Utd have offered ‘a crazy salary’ to Benzema, after saving loads on Ronaldo’s departure, with their terms ‘much higher than what he currently receives in Madrid’.

Man Utd ‘assure him’ that he will be an ‘undisputed’ starter with the presence of former Real Madrid team-mates Casemiro and Raphael Varane at Old Trafford also working in United’s favour.

And a report in The Athletic has revealed that Man Utd are set to save ‘between £15m to £30m’ over the next six months after Ronaldo left the club last month.

The Athletic details:

‘United’s quarterly results, released on Thursday, revealed the scale of the financial hit sustained by employing Ronaldo. For the fiscal year 2023, United raised their guidance on EBITDA — earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation — to £125million-£140million from a prior expected range of £100m-£110m “as a result of reduced player wage costs”.

‘That benefit to United’s bank balance of between £15m to £30m can be attributed to Ronaldo’s salary for December to June coming off the wage bill and their underlying revenues also improving.

‘Who could afford that kind of outlay? Real Madrid, the club where he spent nine seasons after a 2009 move from United, have already said no to a reunion. Barcelona, the other marquee team in Spain, have no cash and signed Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer.’
