According to reports, Newcastle United have ‘cooled their interest’ in Man Utd and England goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Following a fruitful spell at Sheffield United, Henderson returned to Man Utd ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Henderson played 26 times for United that year but he lost his place to David De Gea before the season ended.

First test of new Manchester United is resisting urge to sign Gareth Bale

The 25-year-old did not make a single appearance for United in 2021/22 with De Gea being one of their standout performers.

Henderson is keen to leave Man Utd this summer to boost his chances of featuring at this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.

It was reported last month that Newcastle United were ‘considering a £40m deal’ for the shot-stopper.

TalkSPORT are now stating that Henderson has ‘entered limbo’ with Newcastle ‘cooling their interest’ in him.

It is claimed that the Magpies are ‘unlikely to follow up their interest’ in Henderson after initial talks.

Instead, Eddie Howe’s side are ‘on the trail’ of Switzerland international Yann Sommer.

The 33-year-old has played 324 times for Borussia Monchengladbach since 2014. His contract is set to expire and he is ‘reluctant’ to pen an extension.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United are reportedly going to “focus all their energy and powers of persuasion” on their pursuit of Lille defender Sven Botman.

His departure is anticipated, but it remains unclear if he will play his football in England or Italy next season.

Gianluca Di Marzio (via GIFN) has claimed that AC Milan are yet to meet Lille’s asking price of around €40-€45m.

The Italian journalist claims that Botman’s move to AC is now ‘uncertain’ amid interest from Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester United.

While Botman has fallen further away from joining, a deal for Renato Sanches is still expected to happen.

Luke Edwards of The Telegraph has added fuel to the fire by claiming the Magpies “are close to breaking through in their pursuit of the defender after negotiations with Lille”.

“There is a growing sense of confidence” a deal will be completed, with the Geordies preparing to “focus all their energy and powers of persuasion on their bid”.

Following said breakthrough, “it seems increasingly likely” that Botman will sign for Newcastle this summer.

Furthermore, The Athletic believe Newcastle “remain hopeful” the Netherlands under-21 international will play his football for the St James’ Park club next season.
