Man Utd ‘plot’ striker deal with summer move agreed as Glazers play ‘cautious game’
Man Utd are keeping tabs on RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko as they look for more options in attack, according to reports.
The Red Devils have been relying on goals from Marcus Rashford so far this season with the England international bagging his 25th in all competitions on Sunday as Man Utd beat Newcastle 2-0 to win the Carabao Cup.
Man Utd agreed to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club on a free at the end of November before they signed Wout Weghorst from Championship side Burnley on a season-long loan deal in the January transfer window.
It seems unlikely that Weghorst will stay beyond the end of the season with the Netherlands international only managing one goal for the club to date.
And now Football Insider claims that Man Utd are ‘plotting to sign’ Sesko and ‘are keeping tabs on’ him during their ‘hunt for a number nine’.
Man Utd ‘are considering a move for Sesko ahead of the summer transfer window’ despite the Slovenia international already agreeing ‘to join sister club RB Leipzig for around £21million in the summer’.
The report adds that Old Trafford is ‘seen as the perfect destination for the striker given [Erik] Ten Hag’s track record of nurturing young talent at Ajax’ with claims that ‘a big bid from another club could change the trajectory of Sesko’s career’.
Football Insider also bring news that The Glazers are now considering all takeover options at Man Utd with the American owners now potentially staying and growing their ownership of the club.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider: “The Glazers are playing a cautious game with the Man United takeover.
“They want to extract maximum dollar from the sale of the club and the last thing they want to do is send out a signal that they will sell regardless of the offers that arrive.
“So by having discussions with Elliott Management they are exploring all options, one of which will be providing additional funds for potential capital expenditure.
“What we also could see is that the Glazers could buy out the Glazers.
“Not all of the six Glazer children are attached to Man United – many of them don’t even know the shape of the ball.
“We might see Avram and Joel try to buy out some of their sibling’s shares, and they will need money to do this.”
