A mid-season move is possible after Man Utd received multiple enquiries about signing Mason Greenwood on loan, while the club’s stance and where the striker might end up have both been revealed.

The 21-year-old has not played for Man Utd since January of 2022. Greenwood was suspended indefinitely by the Red Devils following his arrest early last year. However, following the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence coming to light, the CPS subsequently dropped all charges levied Greenwood’s way.

The development put Man Utd in the spotlight with how to move forward with the player a decision that obviously requires careful consideration. Indeed, United confirmed they would conduct an internal investigation into the matter.

The Times later reported a host of concerns within both United’s playing and non-playing staff had been raised regarding the idea of reintegrating Greenwood at Carrington.

ESPN added United’s final call is unlikely to be made public until the summer ‘at the earliest’.

With Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford still unclear, clubs whose transfer windows remain open are spying an opportunity.

One country who fits that bill is Turkey. In lieu of the devastating earthquake that struck the region, FIFA granted the Turkish FA permission to extend their winter window until March 5.

Fenerbahce had been linked and were reportedly willing to absorb the backlash signing Greenwood would bring in the belief he’d greatly aid their fortunes on the pitch.

Elsewhere, speculation a move to China could be on the cards quickly came and went.

Greenwood offers lodged; Likeliest Man Utd outcome revealed

Now, an update from the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has put Greenwood’s future back in focus. What’s more, the reporter claimed the club have received numerous enquiries, and also revealed Man Utd’s stance on a possible exit so far.

McGrath tweeted the Red Devils have ‘received loan enquiries’ from ‘Turkish clubs and clubs with open transfer windows’.

The fact McGrath only named Turkey and no other countries is perhaps an indication a move to Turkey is Greenwood’s best bet in the event he does depart.

Greenwood could conceivably play again this season if United greenlight a move. However, for the time being, McGrath stressed United have ‘not pursued a deal’.

While not stated by the reporter, one reason behind their inaction may be the bad look loaning Greenwood out would be while their own internal investigation is still ongoing.

As such, it’s looking increasingly likely Greenwood will be kept on ice in Manchester until United’s probe has run its course.
