Man Utd to reverse January decision as Ten Hag fixes sights on attacking star’s replacement
Manchester United are reportedly planning on backtracking on a January decision, as they’re eyeing Yannick Carrasco for a summer move.
United have done pretty well in front of goal this season considering Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract was cancelled in November. Indeed, the other attacking options at the club have combined for 34 Premier League goals.
That’s helped them to third in the league, and only three points behind rivals Manchester City in second.
Marcus Rashford has had a hand in a good chunk of those goals. The forward has been in electric form during this campaign, and has scored 10 league goals and assisted three.
However, the club could certainly benefit from another option or two. Indeed, were Rashford not around, they’d surely suffer in terms of attacking output.
What’s more, one forward is a loanee, and three are either 21 or younger.
There have been links to a number of attackers both during and since the January window. Those have included Victor Osimhen, who seems to be the major target for the summer.
Whether that’s a deal that gets done or not remains to be seen, but it certainly seems he’d improve the attack.
Ten Hag backtracking on Carrasco decision
It now seems that Erik ten Hag is planning on backtracking on a January decision and bringing another forward to Old Trafford. Indeed, reports in the winter transfer window suggested Atletico Madrid wide player Carrasco had been offered to United.
However, that was seemingly on the final day, when their priority was getting a deal for Marcel Sabitzer over the line. As such, they focussed on the deal for the midfielder and opted against the snare of Carrasco.
Now, though, it seems they could be interested in bringing him to the club, as per AS.
They report the attacker has been ‘losing importance’ to Atletico. Indeed, the report also suggests he will be leaving at the end of the season, after he wanted to move on in January.
His desire to move on is likely why United were offered the chance to sign him. While they didn’t take it up, AS reports the Red Devils are ‘very attentive’ to his future, which means a move could be on the cards.
One in, one out for United attack
More players could come in and out, but it seems there could be chance of a one in, one out situation at United. Anthony Martial is one of three players that will reportedly be allowed to leave in the summer.
As such, there will be a need to replace him with another attacker, and that could be where Carrasco comes in. He’s primarily used as a left winger, but has played on the right as well as in the middle and just behind the striker before.
With that being said, he seems a good, versatile player to add to the side. What’s more, he’s shown himself to be a danger in front of goal at Atletico, with a best return of league 10 goals in 2016/17.
Just two seasons ago, when he was playing regularly, he notched six La Liga goals and 10 assists. He followed that up with another six goals and six assists last season.
Ten Hag could definitely benefit from having a player with that sort of ability to call upon.
