Man Utd sensation Alejandro Garnacho has put both his manager and an expensive signing on notice with his comments to the club’s media.

Despite being just 18, Garnacho has made an instant impact upon featuring regularly in the first-team this season. The lively forward has just 292 minutes of action to his name across the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup combined.

However, that’s not stopped him from registering four goal constitutions in such a short timespan.

Fabrizio Romano reported Garnacho is in line for a new contract that better reflects his growing influence in the squad. The Daily Star later reported the Argentina youth international is poised for a tenfold salary increase.

Now, speaking to the club’s media, Garnacho made it crystal clear where he wants to play in a Manchester United shirt.

The explosive teenager let Ten Hag know in no uncertain terms he views the left wing role as his best.

That is the position that was most frequently assumed by £73m signing Jadon Sancho last season and is where the bulk of Granacho’s cameos off the bench have come.

There’s still plenty of time for Sancho to justify that price tag given he himself is still only 22. However, if Garnacho continues to impress and Ten Hag turns his substitute appearances into starts, Sancho may be deprived of the opportunity.

What’s more, if Garnacho keeps up anything close to his current goals contribution record, United will find it difficult to play him anywhere but the left wing – even if it comes at the expense of costlier signings.

Man Utd sensation stakes his claim

“I’ve always liked to play out wide on the left, as a right-footed player able to cut inside,” said Garnacho (via Man Utd’s official website).

“To be able to play as a right-footed player down the left, you also have to be pretty decent with your weaker foot.

“From an early age, I’ve always practiced hard using both feet, because that makes you into a much better player and so nowadays I can play with both feet – not to perfection but to a good standard.

“Thankfully I was able to score those two goals [against Real Sociedad and Fulham] with my other foot without too much difficulty.”

Garnacho’s injury time winner was overshadowed mere hours later by Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with TalkTV.

Senior members of the United squad were reportedly left furious about Ronaldo’s outburst taking the spotlight away from Garnacho.

Regardless, the youngster went on to explain why he’s so often able to get the better of opposing defenders.

Garnacho a student of the game

“For the Fulham goal, I’d been keen to come on and we were drawing one each at the time,” he continued.

“The situation in the game was just right for the counterattack, and for running at people, which is what I like to do.

“I played a one-two with Christian Eriksen and he put me in with a great pass as I ran in behind the defence and I was able to finish it off. In that moment, everything was very intense, and I could hardly believe it!

“[You have to be ready] to go on and give everything. At home I always study the full-backs and during the game itself; during the time I’m sitting on the bench.

“So I can then go on and know where and how I need to be looking to go past them.

“I analyse games and also opponents when I’m about to come up against them, so that I’ve got some background on each player to be ready for the game.”
