Moises Caicedo’s recent comments suggest he would be open to leaving Brighton for Man Utd in the future.
The Ecuadorian midfielder signed for the Seagulls in February 2021 for around £4.5million.
It has been reported that Man Utd were in the running to sign the player for that price, but opted against the transfer.
The Red Devils are now kicking themselves with Brighton now asking for at least ten times that amount with Erik ten Hag’s side one of many believed to be interested in signing the 20-year-old.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Caicedo and are expected to make some waves in the transfer market next summer with a new midfielder on the agenda.
Jude Bellingham is apparently the Reds’ number one target, but the Borussia Dortmund teenager will likely cost over £100m.
Man Utd are reportedly keeping tabs on Bellingham’s situation, as are Man City and Real Madrid.
Bellingham was linked with all four clubs in the summer window but it was made abundantly clear by Dortmund that he would not be sold in 2022.
And Brighton issued a hands-off warning when it came to Caicedo, with Man Utd believed to be eyeing up a move in the summer.
This could be one to keep an eye on in 2023 after Albion lost Graham Potter to Chelsea.
The Blues head coach might eye a reunion with the young Ecuador international with N’Golo Kante out of contract in less than 12 months.
It is fair to say that the player’s performances in the Premier League have failed to go unnoticed.
Despite the vast amount of rumours in the summer transfer window, Brighton did not receive a formal offer.
This has been confirmed by Caicedo, who has said he is “very happy” at Brighton, but “would have thought about it a lot” if he received an offer to leave in the summer.
“I saw rumours and things like that, but I was working on my team,” he told Ole.
“I didn’t want anything to take me away from my work, I let my agent handle everything. I was very calm, focused only on Brighton and I didn’t know if there were other proposals or not.
“I was just working on my team to play good games. If there was any proposal, I would have thought about it a lot, but I am very happy here at Brighton and doing very well, already adapted to the team.
“Now I just want to be here, keep getting more minutes, play in the World Cup and then we’ll see what happens.”
Caicedo is a very ambitious person and sees no reason why the Seagulls cannot win the Premier League.
“I’m a guy who doesn’t think negative,” he said.”I think that if we all do our part, we can win the title.
“We know that it will not be easy because there are very tough teams. We just have to work and concentrate on ourselves, not see others and focus only on ourselves.
“We are going to fight with any team that we have in front of us.
“I like to win titles and it would be a dream to win the Premier League: that is why I have come here, not only to compete but to win titles.
“I want to be the Ecuadorian who has won the most titles in his career. I am working very hard for it and I want to achieve it.”
