Manchester United boss Eric ten Hag is on the trail of a rejuvenated Newcastle star and could look to beat fellow suitors Arsenal to his signature in January, according to a report.
The Red Devils are putting together their plans for further rebuilding work in both the January and summer windows. And having spent well over £200m in his first transfer window, planning is afoot for their forthcoming forays.
Top of Ten Hag’s wanted list is a new right-back – a Lyon star has once again been linked on Tuesday – while a new goalkeeper is also on the agenda.
Indeed, Ten Hag is giving serious thought as to what to do next with David De Gea as his contract enters its final eight months.
But there are other areas of the side which also need addressing too, not least up front and in midfield. Indeed, Ten Hag remains keen on a deal for Borussia Dortmund phenomen Jude Bellingham. However, any deal for the England international is likely to cost well in excess of £100m.
And, per reports in Germany on Tuesday, United look to be fading fast in the Bellingham transfer race for a surprising reason.
However, one man who United are also turning their attention to is Miguel Almiron. The Paraguayan is arguably the most in-form player in the Premier League. And he has scored eight goals in just 14 Premier League games so far this season.
And with Eddie Howe’s side flying high in third place in the Premier League, the form of Almiron is beginning to attract a lot of attention.
The winger is a former target of Arsenal, with the Gunners making a move to sign him prior to his move to St James’ Park.
Ten Hag pondering swoop for Miguel Almiron
And they are seemingly back on his trail, with his deal due to expire in summer 2024.
Understandably, Newcastle are looking to reward Almiron with a new deal at St James’ Park.
And now reports in Spain claim Ten Hag is also showing an interest in luring the player to Old Trafford.
In what is billed as a three-way battle for his services, the report also claims Atletico Madrid are keen.
But it is the link with United and Ten Hag which is the most intriguing.
The report states Ten Hag is looking to improve his ‘offensive rotation’ amid the ‘imminent departure’ of Cristiano Ronaldo. As such, it’s stated that Ten Hag ‘likes Almiron a lot’. Furthermore, the prospect of the star leaving St James’ is possible ‘if he does not finish renewing his contract before next season’.
The report states that the Gunners, too, are also very much admirers. Mikel Arteta is on the trail of Mykhaylo Mudryk among others, though the Ukrainian is rated at around £50m. Any deal for Almiron, though, could cost a whole lot less. And the player is of appeal to Arteta due to his proven Premier League quality.
As such, a furious battle is set to ensue for his services in 2023. And it seems Almiron is in no hurry to commit to a new deal while demand for his services is high.
Star advised to stay at Newcastle
Despite links with some of the Premier League and Europe’s big-hitting sides, Almiron is being advised to stay loyal to Newcastle.
The advice comes from the player’s former teammate Dani Guiza, who played alongside Almiron at his first club, Cerro Porteno.
“I am very proud of Miguel. He made his debut with us in the first team. I already knew that he was going to go far because he is a boy who was committed, worked day by day,” Guiza told VERSUS.
“We shared many chats. Apart from the footballers who slept with us in the room, we chatted with him. I tried to give him good advice. He is one of the young people who wanted to learn.
“It is clear they ask you everything. In life to be able to achieve success, it’s the job and Miguel had it since I met him.”
Guiza added: “Let him triumph there, he feels loved by the fans and he is very comfortable at the club. Of course, I hope one day he can wear the shirt of my beloved Real Madrid!”
