A Man Utd star who’s seen a move to another Premier League side proposed by intermediaries has let Erik ten Hag know what can prevent an exit.

Man Utd’s engine room could be short two or even three names soon into the summer transfer window. Indeed, the Daily Mail recently confirmed Bayern Munich loanee, Marcel Sabitzer, will not be brought back to Old Trafford.

The Austria international had hoped to earn a permanent move, but Ten Hag has opted against pursuing an outright capture.

Elsewhere, Scott McTominay is courting strong interest from Newcastle who would immediately install the Scot as a regular starter.

Fred, meanwhile, could also be among the departures, with TEAMtalk exclusively learning United are open to cashing in on the 30-year-old veteran.

The Manchester Evening News then brought news of Fred potentially not having far to go to find a new club.

Indeed, the outlet claimed Fred could remain in England by joining Fulham. They then stated ‘intermediaries have proposed a possible move for Fred to Fulham’.

The Cottagers may be forced into signing a replacement for Joao Palhinha who is in high demand after a dominant first season in England.

Ten Hag would prefer to sell Fred if it came down to a straight choice between he and McTominay. His reasoning is obvious, with Fred four years older than the Newcastle target.

Regardless, TEAMtalk learned Man Utd won’t force Fred out and will only cash in if they receive a suitable offer.

However, when recently speaking to FourFourTwo, Fred revealed his dismay at his lack of minutes on the pitch this season.

Fred did rack up 55 appearances across all competitions, though only 22 of those were starts. He’s also been an unused substitute in the league on six occasions this year.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are Ten Hag’s preferred midfield pairing. McTominay is another obstacle in Fred’s way, while an upgrade on Sabitzer is wanted too.

As such, Fred’s outlook on the gametime front does not look like it’ll improve any time soon. If it doesn’t, the Brazilian may become more receptive to leaving if Fulham act on their interest.

His fellow Brazilian, Willian, has enjoyed a remarkable career resurgence while working under Msrco Silva at Fulham. That is something that is sure to have been noticed by Fred.

Fred told FourFourTwo: “In terms of my own performance [this season], I believe I’ve played well, although I wish I’d had more minutes on the pitch.

“Whenever I was on the field, I think I delivered what was expected from me to help the team succeed.”

Fred “over the moon” after breaking trophy duck

When running the rule over a season that has seen Man Utd return to lifting major silverware, Fred had nothing but positive things to say.

He continued: “The club’s performance has been good, but as players we dream big and always aspire to win important trophies.

“We know that last season our results were far from what we wanted. This season has been much better: we won the League Cup, we’re in the FA Cup final and we’ve been fighting for the top four in the Premier League.

“We’re conscious that we could have gone further in the Europa League [United lost 5-2 on aggregate to Sevilla in the quarter-finals] but, all things considered, I’ve been happy with our season.

“I was over the moon with my first trophy at the club, which shows that our team is on the right path after years of reconstruction.”

The League cup success over Newcastle was Man Utd’s first trophy since lifting the Europa League in 2017. Fred joined Man Utd from Shakhtar Donetsk for around £52m in 2018.
