Darren Bent believes Harry Kane would be a “perfect” signing for Man Utd, but does not think the England captain will leave Tottenham.

The Red Devils will probably be in the market for a new striker in 2023 with Cristiano Ronaldo struggling and also wanting to leave the club.

The Portugal captain decided to wait until a few days before pre-season to tell the club he was unhappy and did not want to play in the Europa League.

His wish was not granted, with Man Utd reluctant to sell and literally every single elite Champions League club reluctant to sign him.

And Ronaldo has shown clubs around Europe what they are missing with a gargantuan one goal from open play in 12 appearances this term.

It would have been one in 13 had he not refused to come on against Tottenham last week; once again displaying an exemplary attitude that will surely have club officials queuing outside Jorge Mendes’ office to discuss a transfer.

Marcus Rashford has been pretty impressive this season after an extremely difficult 18 months on the pitch, and Anthony Martial has been given a chance to impress Erik ten Hag.

Having said that, a new No. 9 should be a top priority for Man Utd boss Ten Hag.

They were linked with 19-year-old Slovenian Benjamin Sesko in the summer before he agreed to join RB Leipzig in a deal that will be completed next summer.

Another name thrown in the rumour mill was former Stoke City and West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic, who would have been a short-term solution before supporters went crazy at the idea of him joining.

The board pulled out of negotiations following backlash.

As Bent says, a move for Kane is pretty perfect for Man Utd.

He is a world-class striker who is obviously proven in the Premier League and would slot right in as their best attacker by a long shot.

It remains to be seen whether or not Man Utd would be willing to pay Tottenham’s asking price, if they even set one.

However, Kane is out of contract in 2024 and could force a move out as he looks to win a trophy for the first time in his career.

A move to Man City is now unlikely with Erling Haaland at the Etihad. The Citizens tried to sign Kane last summer for over £100million.

Bent insists a transfer to Old Trafford “makes sense” but is “not convinced” the England captain will leave Spurs.

“Where does he go? That City bubbles gone,” he told talkSPORT.

“United would be perfect, they need a centre-forward.

“So that makes sense.”

Bent continued: “I’m not convinced he’ll leave.

“One, Harry loves the football club. Two, someone’s got to sum up the money.

“It was pretty clear last season that he wanted to leave.

“Man City were the ones pressing the issue, clearly they never came up with enough money and its believed they bid £140m but didn’t get him.

“They clearly believed that he was worth it, but Spurs thought he was worth more.

“Spurs are a club where if you don’t hit the price they want, you’re not going anywhere.”

You would expect Kane to be available for a respectable price next summer with his contract expiring the following year – unless he pens a new deal.

Bent believes Spurs would still want a fee in the region of £100m to let go of such a key player, however.

“I still think around £100m,” he added.

“There’s no way Daniel Levy will let him walk out for £60m. He could have two weeks left on his contract, Daniel Levy will still want £100m.”
