Manchester United face Atalanta in the Champions League tonight with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to build on that critical win over Tottenham.

Defensive mistakes and a lack of a coherent plan saw United trail the same opposition by two goals when the first-half whistle went at Old Trafford a fortnight ago before a dramatic turnaround thanks to the attacking quality in the side led them to victory.

Since then, United have been battered by Liverpool and, with the pressure on Solskjaer, switched formation for Saturday’s win over Tottenham amid a raft of criticism of the manager.

Given Atalanta’s ability to cut through United, as well as the fact they are playing away from home, it is no surprise to see Solskjaer to do the same this evening, although Victor Lindelof’s absence from training with a knock means Eric Bailly comes into the side.

Paul Pogba is available for European duty after his suspension and returns in midfield.

“We want everyone to be raring to go and they are," Solskjaer said on Monday. "I think with Paul coming back in, we've got another option there to give them problems.

“We are looking alright in the training session this morning. Everyone was on there. There were a couple of little twinges in the training session but I don't think they will be major.

"I cannot give you the gameplan or the tactics but we have a squad to play many different ways. You can put any tactics out or system out, it was the players within it and how they executed the roles that was the difference on Saturday. The quality we played with was more important than the system.”
