New Barnet manager Mark McGhee faces a wait to find out if he will have to serve a six-match touchline ban following his appointment at the struggling League Two club.

McGhee was handed a misconduct charge by the Scottish Football Association in March for “aggressive behaviour” towards an official when he was in charge of Motherwell.

However, he had been sacked by the club before he could serve the ban and he could now have to serve the suspension at Barnet.

If the SFA want the ban to apply in England, they must apply to FIFA for the sanction to be ratified.

That has not happened yet and, for now, McGhee is free to take his place in the dugout at Port Vale on Saturday. Barnet are currently 23rd in League Two and a ban for their boss would be a setback to their hopes of climbing the table.
