Manchester City can get 'much, much better' but will not emulate Arsenal Invincibles, says Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has warned that his Manchester City side can still get “much, much better”, but insists that sooner or later, they will be beaten.

City’s 4-0 victory at Swansea City on Wednesday night was their 15th consecutive league victory, the longest winning streak in the history of English football’s top four tiers.

Only a draw against Everton in August blemishes City’s near-perfect record this season, with Guardiola’s side 11 points clear at the Premier League's summit.

City are on course to finish the season with more than 100 points and should win the title comfortably, but Guardiola is not focusing on the records his players could set and only on how they can improve.

“What's important is to play better, to try to play better and play better. That's the most important thing,” the City manager said.

“The record is OK but the records always stay there and one day it is going to be broken.

“What's important is to focus on the pitch what we have to do to play better. To increase our chances, concede few and that's what we have to do. When I'm happy it's not because of the result but the way we play. That's what I'm more satisfied by.

“Statistics are statistics, it's good to write about that but the way we play, I am satisfied the most. I have the feeling we can do better. Much much better.”

Guardiola will also not entertain thoughts of maintaining their unbeaten record all season long and emulating Arsenal’s 2003-04 Invincibles.

“That's not going to happen,” he insisted. “That belongs to Arséne Wenger and his amazing Arsenal in 2004. We are going to lose games.

“Today there's a completely different intensity in a lot of games. Now what happened now is an exception. It is not normal what we have done.

“We are so happy and will try to fight and maintain it as long as possible, but that is an exception. People, teams and players lose games, that's going to happen.”
