Manchester City have formally announced the signing of Erling Haaland.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, joining the Premier League champions from Borussia Dortmund for around £51m after a release clause was activated.

Last month, City revealed they had reached an agreement in principle with the forward, who scored 29 goals in 30 appearances last season despite an injury-hit campaign.

One of Europe’s most clinical marksmen, Haaland gives Pep Guardiola a fresh option through the middle of the attack, with City having won two Premier League titles without deploying a fixed-point central striker.

In May, Guardiola said: “I’m pretty sure he will adapt perfectly to our team but it will be next season.

“I’m excited and of course I like to work with good players, the players make you a good manager. Of course he’s an incredible young talent, at a perfect age and I’m pretty sure we’ll have him to settle as best as possible.”

In total, the Norway international scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for Dortmund, a club he joined in January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg.

Haaland’s father Al-Inge played for City between 2000 and 2003, with his son pictuted in a City top as a youngster.

“This is a proud day for me and my family,” he the club’s official website.

“I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.

“There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions.

“I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season.”
