Plymouth Argyle stunned Manchester City in the third round of the FA Youth Cup with a surprise win on penalties.

Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper put in a man of the match display at Home Park to ensure the game finished 0-0 after 90 minutes.

A Manchester City team containing the captains of England and Spain's U17 sides then succumbed 6-5 on penalties.

England's U17 World Cup-winning goalkeeper Curtis Anderson was unable to prevent Michael Peck from scoring the game-winning penalty after Plymouth goalkeeper Cooper had set up the prospect of victory by keeping out Ian Carlo Poveda-Ocampo's spot kick.

Man City's youth side have lost in the final of the competition for the past three years running, all to Chelsea.

Plymouth will not play Burnley at home in the fourth round of the competition.

"I am so proud. We managed to see it through to extra-time, when there were some weary legs and weary minds, but we managed to see the game through," said Plymouth Academy director, Kevin Hodges.

"I don't think the boys will understand until a few days time what they have actually achieved."
