Manchester United 'add Nigeria star to transfer list' as Ruben Amorim eyes new striker signing
Manchester United have added Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface to their list of potential signings, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg.
While United have scored 12 goals in two Carabao Cup games, and 10 in five in the Europa League, they have just 13 in as many Premier League outings so far this season, and have regularly struggled for goals in recent years.
Rasmus Hojlund’s two goals against Bodo/Glimt were a welcome boost, but Joshua Zirkzee’s form has deserted him since his summer move from Bologna, not scoring since his debut against Fulham in August. Alejandro Garnacho is currently the club’s top scorer with eight goals, and just three have come in the league.
Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes were the only players to hit double figures in the league last season, joint-top scoring with 10 goals apiece.
Boniface is reported to be one of several names on United’s list, but any move is not likely to take place until the summer.
With Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, links to his former Sporting striker, and the top scorer across Europe so far this campaign, Viktor Gyokeres have picked up, while Boniface’s international teammate, and namesake, Victor Osimhen, is seemingly also set to be on the market.
The Nigerian forward has scored 29 goals in 49 games for Leverkusen since his arrival 18 months ago, helping Xabi Alonso’s side to a league and cup double last season.
However, he is currently on the sidelines having suffered a thigh injury on international duty this month.
