Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reveals his manager of the season
Jose Mourinho has indicted who he thinks should win Manager of the Year and no, it’s not Jose Mourinho. It is in fact fellow Portuguese gaffer; Carlos Carvalhal of Swansea.
The chirpy Swansea boss, who has made a habit of coming up with quotable analogies in his press conferences, has turned the South Wales side’s fortunes around since arriving in December to replace Paul Clement.
The Swans were rock bottom of the Premier League but now sit 15th in the table after five wins in 11 league games, including some high profile victories over Liverpool and Arsenal.

On Sunday Carvalhal took his side to play Mourinho’s Manchester United at Old Trafford and they went down 2-0 but after the match the ‘Special One’ was full of praise for his opposite number, who he invited into his post-match press conference in classic Mourinho fashion.
“This guy [Carvalhal] is going to keep Swansea in the Premier League,” said Mourinho. “He is the manager of the season, because they were dead and he is going to save them.”
The PFA end of season awards are open for voting now so it looks like we know where Mourinho’s vote will be going, with the United boss particularly impressed with Carvalhal’s bold approach to making substitutions at half-time with his side two goals down.
He added: “He changed the players. Not many coaches would do that at half-time. He did it and improved his team.”
The change worked as United failed to add to their two goal advantage, which could prove crucial to Swansea’s goal difference in a relegation race that could go down to the wire with eight teams still in the mix.
Carvalhal was full of more smilies post-game: “We are swimming now, absolutely,” he said. “We are not in the line of the water we are swimming, and this is good because if you go to the line sometimes, the sharks push you down and you can go last position.
“But so far, we’re swimming so it’s not bad, but we still feel we need to swim faster and we need more points to stay up.”
