Manchester United have completed the signing of Wout Weghorst.

The towering Dutch forward follows Jack Butland through the door at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag continues to build on what has been a promising first season in charge.

He has arrived at Old Trafford on a loan deal until the end of the season.

John Murtough, Manchester United football director, said: ‘’Wout has a consistent goalscoring record across several European leagues, and his attributes will add a further dimension to our squad for the remainder of the season.

“We were also attracted by his strong personality and dedicated approach to football, which fits perfectly with the spirit that Erik is building within our squad.

“He has shown a huge desire to join Manchester United and be part of what we’re striving to achieve this season.”

Weghorst joined Besiktas on loan in July after an ill-fated spell at Burnley following a move from Wolfsburg in January.

But after finding his goalscoring form for the Turkish side and then scoring twice at the World Cup for the Netherlands, Weghorst has earned a move back to the Premier League.

A statement from Besiktas on Friday read: “The temporary transfer agreement with our professional football player Wout François Maria Weghorst and his club has been terminated by mutual agreement with the player and his club.

“Due to the early termination of the contract by the Burnley FC club, a termination fee of €2,825,000 will be paid to our Company.”
