Manchester United will be given a free run at Jadon Sancho after Pep Guardiola ruled out any chance of a move for the Borussia Dortmund winger.

Manchester City have first refusal on their former academy player so long as they can match the highest bidder.

Despite Dortmund valuing Sancho at £118million, it is likely his price will be significantly reduced as a result of coronavirus.

But Guardiola insists there is no way back to the Etihad for the England international – even though City are set to lose Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich in a £45million deal.

Asked if he would consider a reunion with the 20-year-old, he delivered an emphatic response.

“No, no, no,” he said. “He decided to leave - why should he decide to come back?

“We wanted him to stay like Eric Garcia and Phil (Foden) now. He decided like Leroy now, myself, I decided to move.

“It’s going to happen. So when he decided to move to Dortmund it’s not because he is going to decide to come back one year later. It would make no sense.

“He didn’t want to be here, so that is why he doesn’t want to come back here.”

Dortmund are determined to get their full asking price for Sancho – but United are reluctant to spend in excess of £70million for any target as they count the cost of Covid-19.

Guardiola, meanwhile, accepts he will have to undergo a rebuild at City after surrendering the Premier League title to Liverpool.

His priority is a centre-back, with Kalidou Koulibaly heavily-linked – but he must also contend with the departures of David Silva and Sane.

Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho are also in the final year of their contracts.

“Some players have to be replaced,” he said. “But it’s not a disaster thing, or bad thing, it’s part of football.

“It happens in other clubs when players, who are considered important players for the club, decide to leave. They don’t want to be here and that was the case for Jadon Sancho and Leroy - especially Leroy because Jadon Sancho was in the academy.

“We cannot do anything else, as a club. If guys don’t want to stay they have to leave. We are not getting the best out of these players if in their mind they are not happy here.

“This is the first thing and the second is with the age. But it happened and we have to rebuild it.

“It happens at clubs around the world, you never can be eternal, and we have to accept it and try to take the right decisions as a club to try to maintain the level that we have.”
