Manchester United: Jose Mourinho 'Prepared to Wait' for £85 Million Transfer

Manchester United will wait until the end of the season before triggering Antoine Griezmann’s £85 million release clause, according to a report.

Griezmann, 25, has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford for much of this season. That release clause would make him the second-most expensive player of all time, behind United’s own Paul Pogba at £89.2 million.

But reports from earlier in March had suggested United was looking at other striker targets, with Kylian Mbappe of Monaco thought to be foremost in manager Jose Mourinho’s mind.

But The Daily Telegraph reports United will pull the pin on Griezmann’s release clause when the season finishes, helped by Pogba’s frequent text messages to the France international urging him to sign.

United would prefer to conduct its transfer business when competitive football has finished, with the club still involved in the race for UEFA Champions League football and the Europa League, where it has made the quarterfinals.
