Ruben Amorim will be hoping to make a winning start to his Manchester United tenure when his side faces Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The 39-year-old, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon earlier this month, will be looking to hit the ground running and lead the Reds to a third successive win in all competitions.

United, under former interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, signed off for the international break a fortnight ago with a 3-0 home win over Leicester City, meaning they will be trying to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time this season. Amorim held his first press conference as United head coach on Friday and ahead of this afternoon's trip to Suffolk, our United writers have each had their say on how the Portuguese chief should set his team up.

Assuming Lisandro Martinez is unavailable, the back three picks itself. Regardless of Martinez's fitness, Yoro has to make his debut. His returned to fitness at the right time - for him and for United.

Amorim will likely go with conventional full backs but Amad is worth trialling on the left and certainly deserving of a place in the side. Casemiro has perked up of late but now Kobbie Mainoo is fit, United have to go with their intended axis of him and Manuel Ugarte.

Alejandro Garnacho has been United's best player this season and Bruno Fernandes's form has improved. The two strikers have been pretty hopeless as starters and the capricious Marcus Rashford has form for excelling at the start of a new manager's reign.

This will be the most highly anticipated United team news since the 2021 Europa League final and Amorim has some big calls to make, although he hinted in his press conference the starting line-up, in terms of which players will be included, might not to be as different as everyone expected.

The back three probably picks itself considering Maguire and Shaw might not be in the squad, however, it will be interesting to see whether Mainoo is recalled after recovering from injury.

I'd start Mainoo alongside Ugarte, which means naming Casemiro on the bench, and I believe Amad deserves to start after taking his chance under Van Nistelrooy. Hojlund struggled during the international break and it might make sense to play Rashford down the middle.

If Amorim intends to transform United's identity from the off, he needs to stick to his principles and unleash his preferred 3-4-3 formation from the start.

Yoro could make his competitive debut if he is deemed strong enough, but it feels somewhat risky to hand him a start after so long on the sidelines. Evans should be in his place, sandwiched between De Ligt and Martinez, should the latter win his fitness battle.

Dalot and Mazraoui should occupy the wing-back positions with Ugarte and Mainoo operating between them in a new-look two-man midfield.

Amorim has options to consider in attack, not least in the wide areas. However, Amad should keep his place after his performances against PAOK and Leicester prior to the pause, and Fernandes should start in a new role with Hojlund leading the attack.
