Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to face no further FA action over abusive language charge

Jose Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, will face no further action from the Football Association for allegedly using abusive language.

Mourinho was alleged to have sworn in his native Portuguese directly into a television camera - saying "f*** off you sons of b******" - following United’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United in October.

The United manager faced a potential touchline ban but successfully appealed against the governing body’s charge of using abusive language last month.

The Independent Regulatory Commission found the charge against Mourinho to be “not proven”, believing he merely glanced into the camera briefly and was not aiming his words directly at anyone.

The FA subsequently appealed the Commission’s ruling, a decision which was supported by an Independent Appeal Board.

However, a separate Commission has now dismissed the charge against Mourinho once more and the United manager will not be punished.

An FA statement, released on Monday, said that English football’s governing body considers the matter to be closed.

“The FA’s position, which it maintained throughout the hearing, was that Mr Mourinho directed his abusive, insulting and improper words directly towards the camera lens, and in these circumstances, the decision to charge was consistent with previous FA charging practice,” it read.

“Whilst we accept that the Independent Regulatory Commission disagreed on this occasion, the FA wishes to make clear that it will continue to take action against participants for any form of abusive, insulting, or improper language or behaviour, which is directed towards a camera.”
