Manchester United player ratings vs Ipswich Town as Bruno Fernandes good and three 7/10s
Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
United conceded in the opening four minutes as a defensive mix-up between Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana allowed Jaden Philogene to tap into an empty net. A Sam Morsy own goal brought United level and they took the lead minutes later through Matthijs de Ligt.
Patrick Dorgu was sent off for a reckless challenge on Omari Hutchinson and the visitors took advantage as Philogene scored his second of the night. United struck early in the second half as Harry Maguire headed home to win the game.
Here are how the players rated at Old Trafford:
Andre Onana
Involved in the mix-up with Dorgu for the first goal and did not anticipate Philogene's cross could go all the way in. 4
Leny Yoro
Possibly his most accomplished performance for United. Played on the front foot and showed a sense of adventure. 7
Harry Maguire
Defended decently up against the lithe Liam Delap and rose to put United 3-2 up early in the second half. Second winner in a month. 7
Matthijs de Ligt
Opportunistically slid in to put United 2-1 up with his first Old Trafford goal but lost Delap for the second goal. Solid in the second half. 7
Diogo Dalot
Exasperated United fans with an errant pass as early as the tenth minute. Did little attacking of note when United had 11 men and then ten. 5
Manuel Ugarte
Reunited with Bruno Fernandes in midfield from the start but struggled to get a grip. Kept on going and rallied the crowd late on. 6
Bruno Fernandes
Got United back into it with two dead-ball kicks that led to first-half goals and then claimed another assist from a free kick for Maguire. 8
Patrick Dorgu
Somehow did not see Onana coming for his unwitting assist for Philogene and was rightly sent off for an overzealous tackle. 2
Joshua Zirkzee
Had some tidy moments linking the play and had to play up front on his own for the final quarter after Rasmus Hojlund was substituted. 6
Alejandro Garnacho
United's most constant attacking threat yet he was hooked after Dorgu was dismissed. Illogical to have been taken off. 6
Rasmus Hojlund
Not in the game at all in the first half and should have been the one to go off for Noussair Mazraoui. Dummied the ball when he got service. 4
Subs
Noussair Mazraoui
A disciplined performance and he still managed to get forward on a few occasions. 6
Casemiro
Bolstered the United midfield. 6
Manager
Wrong to pick both strikers again and got it wrong hooking Garnacho, though that change is not as incendiary given the final result. 5
