A truly woeful performance from Manchester United saw Sheffield United pull off one of the biggest shocks in recent Premier League memory as the Blades left Old Trafford with a 2-1 win.

Manchester United player ratings

David de Gea 4

Felt he should have been awarded a free-kick for Sheffield United's first goal, but his aerial struggles at corners are well known. An unconvincing clearance led to the winner, and performances like these will give Dean Henderson heart that his chance to become No1 will come sooner rather than later.

Aaron Wan Bissaka 4

The right-back has worked on providing more of an offensive threat in recent weeks, but tonight showed Solskjaer still needs an outright offensive alternative against teams further down the table.

Axel Tuanzebe 4

A colossus away to PSG, but he wasted a great chance tonight. Slack passing, poor positioning and then an unfortunate deflection for the winner capped a bad night for the centre-back.

Harry Maguire 5

Didn't gel with Tuanzebe at the back, but stepped up with the equaliser. A mix-up with De Gea led to Burke's winner.

Alex Telles 5

Provided the assist for Maguire with a fine corner, but did little else to shift Luke Shaw as No1 left-back.

Paul Pogba 5

One of those nights for the World Cup winner. His pivot with Matic backfired, with both closed down too easily in the first half. Not a result to hang on his shoulders, but was short of the form he has shown in recent weeks.

Nemanja Matic 4

An alarming performance from the veteran midfielder. He has plenty of title-winning experience, but was badly caught out in the first 45 minutes with poor passing.

Mason Greenwood 5

Fresh off a superb performance against Liverpool, the teenager missed a carbon-copy chance tonight. The last two games have shown why Solskjaer was wary of trusting the forward to be a consistent starter - though he was unlucky to be subbed off instead of Martial or Rashford.

Bruno Fernandes 4

When he's good, he's good, but this was not his night. The Portuguese always plays on the edge with risky passes, and his wayward use of the ball allowed the Blades to pinch possession and regroup. Always a hard worker, but he was off the boil.

Anthony Martial 3

A truly terrible performance. The French striker suffered a knock early doors and that seemed to take him out of the game. Gave the ball away cheaply, didn't work hard enough in pressing or tracking back, and wasted a big chance to try and unseat Edinson Cavani as No1.

Marcus Rashford 3

Anonymous. After starring against Liverpool, he was on the periphery of the game and looked jaded. Missed a glorious early chance, and didn’t improve.

Substitutes

Edinson Cavani N/A

Provided an immediate focal point, but was unable to find space in behind the Blades' brilliant defence.

Luke Shaw N/A

Couldn't drag United back into it, but this match showed how badly he was missed down the left flank.

Donny van de Beek N/A

Sent on late on with Shaw, but didn't really seem to have a role to play - which sums up his season so far.
