Manchester United captain Harry Maguire remains a major doubt for the Europa League Final against Villarreal on Wednesday night, but he has yet to be definitively ruled out of the game.

Maguire has missed each of United’s last four matches against Leicester, Liverpool, Fulham and Wolves after suffering an ankle ligament injury in the closing stages of the 3-1 Premier League win at Aston Villa on May 9.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly expressed doubt that the influential centre-back will be able to play a part in the final in Gdansk, though he was part of the 26-man squad that flew to Poland on Tuesday.

Asked for another update on Maguire in his pre-match press conference held on Tuesday afternoon, the United manager said his skipper would try to join in the club’s final training session ahead of the showpiece but will be severly limited.

United are definitely without forward Anthony Martial and long-term absentee Phil Jones (both knee).

"We've prepared well," Solskjaer said.

"Anthony (Martial) didn't make it, Phil (Jones) of course didn't make it and Harry is just going to jog up and down the sideline, I reckon.

"He'll probably try to join in (training) a little but apart from that we're looking quite good."

On Tuesday, Maguire was named as part of Gareth Southgate’s initial England squad for this summer’s rescheduled European Championship.

That group will be whittled down to 26 on June 1, with Southgate expecting to find out more on all his injury situations - including the likes of Maguire, Jordan Henderson, Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish - over the next few days.

Southgate was initially expected to name his final tournament squad on Tuesday, only for those lingering injury issues and the involvement of several England players in both European finals this week to lead to the late decision to instead name a larger, 33-man provisional party.
