Paul Pogba has fired a warning to Manchester United’s rivals ahead of next season, claiming the club now have “a team to go and win the title”.

United are currently ten points behind long-time leaders Manchester City, who could be crowned champions this weekend if they beat Crystal Palace and United lose against Liverpool on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are on course to finish second, which would be their best performance since 2017/18 and, crucially, are much closer to contending, having ended last season a whopping 33 points behind champions Liverpool.

Pogba’s return to the side and to form has been a key part in United’s superb form in the second half of the season and the Frenchman scored in Thursday night’s thumping 6-2 win over Roma, which has all-but settled their Europa League semi-final tie, with the second leg still to come.

“We’re getting closer and closer,” he told BBC Football Focus. “We were struggling a little bit, we know that, but we don’t have to look back, we have to look forward.

“What is forward is that we’re getting closer to City. They were, before, to be honest, way ahead of us, but now we’ve shown them that we can compete, we’re here and we have a team to go and win the title.

“It’s just a few details and we can do it, for sure.”
