Manchester United vs Barcelona: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warns visitors 'nothing is beyond' United

Barcelona know ‘nothing is beyond’ Manchester United, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League quarter-final at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer guided United to a remarkable away goals victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round and hopes to lead United to their first Champions League semi-final since 2011.

But Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona are comfortable favourites to progress and arrive at Old Trafford taken control of La Liga’s title race at the weekend.

Writing in his programme notes, Solskjaer spoke of his respect for Barcelona’s quality but claimed that the Catalans will fear his side too.

“As we welcome Ernesto Valverde, the Barcelona players and supporters to Old Trafford tonight, it would be easy to talk about how good they are,” he wrote.

“But make no mistake – they’ll be looking at our team and knowing that we can cause them problems.

“Teams that are in the last eight of the Champions League are there for a reason, especially when they’ve already won at Juventus and PSG this season, like we have.

“They’ll look at how we went to France in the second round, two goals down from the home leg, and made competition history by knocking out PSG.

“Barcelona know that nothing is beyond us. I think it’s important that we recognise that as well.”

United have only won two of their previous 11 Champions League knockout ties and have not graced this stage of the competition since the 2013-14 campaign under David Moyes.
