Manchester United vs Burnley - LIVE!

Ralf Rangnick’s team finally got the basics right as his United beat relegation-threatened Burnley 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Scott McTominay and Cristiano Ronaldo scored either side of a Ben Mee own goal to send United sixth in what was a reasonable improvement on their display against Newcastle United on Monday.

While the away side were certainly competitive in the first-half, United managed to see the game out with relative ease, albeit Sean Dyche’s side did little to truly threaten them.

McTominay and Mason Greenwood in particular impressed while Luke Shaw staked a case to replace Alex Telles as the club’s starting left-back with an impressive performance.

United now go sixth and four points off of Arsenal in the final Champions League qualification spot, with a game in hand on their Premier League rivals.

Game fizzling out

22:01 , Jonathan Gorrie

86:00 - As competitive as Burnley were in the first-half, United have controlled the game quite well since returning to the field.

Looks like a routine win.

Another day, another poor Ronaldo free-kick

78:00 - After all of the posturing, Cristiano Ronaldo hits a free-kick straight into the wall.

Also, water is wet.

Looked very painful.

21:36 , Jonathan Gorrie

62:00 - United break through Sancho, who finds Ronaldo, who lays off to McTominay.

He curls one in from outside the box but Hennessey deals with it well.

The game lulls

21:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

58:00 - Fairly quiet at the moment, with Burnley huffing and puffing without causing United many problems.

Greenwood and McTominay excellent

21:25 , Jonathan Gorrie

Rangnick might not seem like the kind of manager for some of United’s superstars but Greenwood and McTominay have been excellent tonight.

Under his watch, perhaps these two can truly develop.

21:22 , Jonathan Gorrie

48:00 - Greenwood, who has been excellent, crosses for Ronaldo, though he heads wide.

Breathless few minutes!

20:57 , Jonathan Gorrie

41:00 - If Burnley keep playing as they are, it’s not hard to see them getting a second.

That would certainly make things interesting.

GOAL: Man United 3-1 Burnley | Aaron Lennon ‘35

20:54 , Jonathan Gorrie

35:00 - Great finish inside the box from Aaron Lennon.

GOAL: Man United 3-0 Burnley | Cristiano Ronaldo ‘32

20:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

32:00 - McTominay crashes a shot against the bar and Ronaldo taps in.

20:49 , Jonathan Gorrie

32:00 - Greenwood with a decent shot after dropping back into the hole and causing Burnley’s defenders issues.

Easy enough save but shows the ways in which United can hurt teams.

20:45 , Jonathan Gorrie

29:00 - Great work from McTominay to break through the Burnley lines and feed Cristiano Ronaldo, who sees his shot blocked.

GOAL: Man United 2-0 Burnley: Jadon Sancho ‘26

20:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

26:00 - Mix up between McNeil and Lowton and Jadon Sancho pounces with a smart finish inside the box.

All Burnley of late

20:38 , Jonathan Gorrie

22:00 - The away side were dominating until wasting a cross.

Cork, Lennon and Westwood all piling the pressure on United in their own box and, interestingly, it’s Cavani who is covering in the wider spaces.

20:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

19:00 - Great run from Luke Shaw, who bursts up the pitch before shooting just wide.

That’s the kind of attacking intent Rangnick will love to see.

Where is the United midfield?

20:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

15:00 - Not exactly panic stations at the moment but Burnley are winning pretty much every second ball in the middle of the park.

Not a great look for the home side.

McCoist x Champion

20:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

Is there a better duo in commentary?

Lovely, lovely stuff.

Man United not having it all their own way

20:28 , Jonathan Gorrie

13:00 - Despite conceding early, Burnley have looked good.

They’ve been getting through the United press a couple of times.

GOAL: Man United 1-0 Burnley | Scott McTominay ‘08

20:24 , Jonathan Gorrie

08:00 - McTominay scores from outside the box after good work from Greenwood.

Smart, side-footed finish.

20:21 , Jonathan Gorrie

05:00 - Through on goal after breaking behind the Burnley line, Cristiano Ronaldo skies OVER when one on one with the ‘keeper.

20:20 , Jonathan Gorrie

04:00 - Burnley break on United after Sancho and Shaw lose the ball.

Wood is offside but his shot goes wide anyway.

Still, a much more promising start for the away side.

20:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

03:00 - Lowton floats one in for Chris Wood who, usually so reliable from that kind of range, heads over from inside the box.

Slow start

20:17 , Jonathan Gorrie

02:00 - Fairly quiet start with Burnley not exactly rushing about to initiate United’s counter-press.

20:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

0:00 - We’re underway at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford’s message to the fans

19:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

Speaking to the club’s official website, England international Marcus Rashford said: ““It’s been a difficult year for the fans as it has been for everyone. But when the fans came back the excitement and the buzz of football just went back to the level it was always at. “For me, I’d say don’t underestimate how important the fans are to the players.

“When you’re running on the pitch in the 70th, 80th minute and you’re completely drained, they’re the ones who keep you going. “It probably explains why Man United score so many late goals. We try to use the energy of the fans and try to put that into the team.

“So, I’d just like to say thank you to them for their support.”

The Ronaldo issue

19:43 , Jonathan Gorrie

It’s absolutely fascinating to see how Cristiano Ronaldo works under Ralf Rangnick.

Far from at his best so far, he’ll desperately need to improve on his performance against Newcastle.
