Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United’s pacey attacking players are the secret behind their ability to win penalties this season.

United won their fourth spot kick in five games against Leicester City on Saturday when Marcus Rashford was brought down by Caglar Soyuncu.

Rashford converted from the spot, sending Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way and atoning for his miss in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last month.

When asked for the secret behind United’s penalty-winning, Solskjaer initially joked: “We should have had more!

“I think it’s the type of players, quick feet, good skills and most of them haven’t been like even debatable, they’ve got skills.

“When we get Anthony back as well we’ll have loads of claims. With VAR you’ll get more than you don’t.”

Solskjaer hailed Rashford for stepping up to take the penalty after his failure from the spot against Palace.

Rashford alternates penalty duties with Paul Pogba, but the midfielder was absent against Leicester with an ankle injury.

“Every striker misses a penalty,” Solskjaer said. “Maradona, Messi, Platini against Brazil [at the 1986 World Cup], Zico missed in the same game.

“You’ve got to be confident to step up next time. What’s the worst that can happen?”
