Pep Guardiola will look to continue his exceptional record in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but standing in his and Manchester City’s way are a resurgent Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to present more evidence that he has turned the club around and has them heading in the right direction to challenge for trophies once more.

The two rivals met in the semis of the competition last year, City triumphing on aggregate on their way to a third straight EFL Cup success, while the Manchester derby shortly before Christmas proved to be a tame, dull, eventless encounter - one which hopefully won’t be repeated here as one team must prevail.

Prediction

It’s not the biggest competition for either club, but City have a proud recent record in the League Cup and United are trying to reestablish themselves as one of the top teams in the country, so this could have more riding on it than usual. City’s upturn in form, then, comes at the perfect time for this semi-final. Man United 1-2 Man City
