Kobbie Mainoo has been handed a starting berth for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final with Charlton tonight.

The 17-year-old forward makes his debut having impressed in the mid-season tour to Spain and takes his place in a team that contains Lisandro Martinez and Tom Heaton.

Bruno Fernandes is suspended after picking up his second yellow card of the competition during the 2-0 last-16 win over Burnley last month, leaving manager Erik ten Hag fairly light in attacking areas.

Elsewhere, Martinez and Harry Maguire start in central defence with Diogo Dalot fit to play.

Jadon Sancho, however, is not ready to feature and Erik ten Hag confirmed that Anthony Martial is not yet ready to start week in, week out.

New signing Jack Butland is not in the squad and defender Axel Tuanzebe remains sidelined.

Manchester United XI: Heaton; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia; McTominay, Fred; Elanga, Mainoo, Antony; Garnacho.
