No. 2 Arizona
Coach: Sean Miller, eighth year
Overall record: 32-4
Scoring leader: Allonzo Trier, sophomore (17.1)
Rebounding leader: Lauri Markkanen, freshman (7.2)
Assists leader: Parker Jackson-Cartwright, junior (4.1)
Famous non-athlete alum: Jerry Bruckheimer, TV & film producer
Why Arizona can win:
Lauri Markkanen is a matchup problem for any team. Xavier, especially, with its lack of size, might find it challenging to guard the 7-footer who can drain 3-pointers and boss the paint. Markkanen struggled for a while when Allonzo Trier became eligible to play, but the two have been playing cohesively for a while now.
Sean Miller, who coached at Xavier from 2004-09, knows how the Musketeers operate. His insight could be a blessing for a Wildcats team hoping to make it out of the West.
No. 11 Xavier
Coach: Chris Mack, eighth year
Overall record: 23-13
Scoring leader: Trevon Bluiett, junior (18.5)
Rebounding leader: RaShid Gaston, senior (6.1)
Assists leader:Quentin Goodin, freshman (3.4)
Famous non-athlete alum: John Boehner, U.S. Congressman and former Speaker of the House
Why Xavier can win:
This team looks like a confident, cohesive unit. The Musketeers struggled after point guard Edmond Sumner went down with a season-ending knee injury, but they have found their rhythm and are playing even better than before losing Sumner.
J.P. Macura is fascinating to watch. He's taken on some point-guard responsibilities while still knocking down shots from behind the arc.Kaiser Gates and TrevonBluiett are Xavier's most intimidatingthreats on offense right now, but Macura's ability to handle multiple positions could give Arizona defenders fits.
