March Madness 2017: North Carolina wipes out Butler

The Tar Heels obliterated the Bulldogs on Friday.

After an action-packed Thursday night, North Carolina and Butler kick off the final four games of the 2017 Sweet 16.

The Tar Heels, despite a win, look to right the ship a bit, as they were anythign but impressive in their second round victory over Arkansas.

Butler, on the other hand, has looked solid in the tournament thus far, and look to make it to its first Elite Eight since Brad Stevens led the Bulldogs to the National Championship game in 2011.

7:24 p.m.:North Carolina's Justin Jackson has been impressive so far. He has eight points so far.

7:34 p.m.:The Tar Heels are up big right now, but something to keep an eye on: big men Tony Bradley and Isaiah Hicks each already have two fouls, while Kennedy Meeks has one. Perhaps these tallies can allow Butler to claw back into the game.

7:45 p.m.:After a quick tabulation, it appears UNC is on pace for all the points. The Tar Heels have 44 points with 3:50 remaining in the first half.

7:50 p.m.:Well, the Tar Heels have found a substitution for their foul-riddled big men. Luke Maye has a career-high 14 points.

7:54 p.m.:You know how I said UNC is on pace for all of the points? Well, I turned around for a minute and now the Tar Heels are somehow on pace for even more than all of the points. They're somehow up 20 now and have 52 points with a minute left!

8:19 p.m.:The game might not be close, but one cool thing: Villanova's Kris Jenkins, whose Wildcats were eliminated in the second round, is in attendance, watching adopted brother Nate Britt of UNC.

8:58 p.m.:Butler has closed the gap a little, as the Bulldogs trail by just 12.

9:19 p.m.:Well, that's gonna do it. North Carolina is headed to another Elite Eight, beating Butler 92-80. Justin Jackson and Joel Berry were sensational, going for 24 and 25 points respectively.
