After looking like Canelo would take an immediate rematch with Dmitry Bivol after his loss earlier this month, he made a U-turn in his decision and chose a third bout with his rival Golovkin.
The pair first met in the ring in 2017 and fought out to a split-draw after 12 rounds. Despite the decision given by the judges, many believed the Kazakh to be the victor. Just under one year later, the rematch took place but this time it was Canelo who took the decision in a much tighter fight. Since then, there have been calls from the boxing world to see the two veterans meet in the ring one final time. Now the wishes of fans have been answered, predictions on how the bout will go have been thrown left right and centre. However, former three-division world ruler Marco Antonio Barrera has been very vocal on how he thinks the bout will go and supports his Mexican counterpart. "There was a lot of entertainment, they were two very close fights that brought out the best in Canelo, and the best in GGG" "Many people were left wondering who won the first and then second. In this third fight, there will be no strategy, there will be no doubt who will win the fight" "Canelo Alvarez will be looking for the knockout from start to finish to be able to convince and close this trilogy" "Saul, I think, will be on top of him looking for the knockout no matter what" Before Canelo-Golovkin 3 however, Barrera will be focusing on his exhibition bout with the former world champion Ricky Hatton.
In his third exhibition bout since retiring from professional boxing in 2011, the 48-year-old will be fighting in Manchester for the second time in his career - with his loss to Amir Khan being the first.
