Marcos Alonso has admitted that Chelsea may have to go unbeaten in the Premier League for the rest of the season if they are to retain their title.

They have lost three of their first eight games and it has left them trailing Manchester City by nine points.

Chelsea take on Roma on Wednesday night in the Champions League, but Alonso also has the lacklustre defence of their League crown on his mind.

The Blues have lost their last two matches, against Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

And Alonso said: "We've lost a lot of points already. We cannot lose any more games. We are going to try to win every game, obviously.

"It'll obviously be very hard. There are teams playing very good football, and there so many games still to come. So we have to think game by game.

"We will focus now on the Champions League, an important game, and then have time to get ready for Watford and the Premier League.”

Conte was very critical of his players following the 2-1 defeat to bottom club Crystal Palace on Saturday, suggesting not a single one put in a good display.

But Alonso added: “It's the truth. It wasn't our best game on Saturday. It's a good call from him to motivate us and make us work hard to change things from the last performance.

"Football is a sport that changes very quickly. There's a good chance tomorrow to put in a good performance and put in a good display.

"Things didn't go very well on Saturday. We had chances enough to win the game, but it wasn't a good performance from the team. The only solution is to work hard and win the next (game).”
