Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford believes a positive run in pre-season can help him find form once again at the club.

Rashford suffered from a difficult campaign at Old Trafford last season. From 25 Premier League appearances, he managed just four goals and a further two assists. Now, the England international is looking ahead to next season as he hopes to improve his game.

There were rumours at the end of the season that Rashford may be moved on from the club. However, it now seems that Rashford is part of new boss Erik ten Hag’s long-term plans.

And speaking to MUTV, the 24-year-old has claimed that a strong pre-season will help him once again become an influential figure in the United squad.

He said: “I don’t think I have had a proper pre-season since 2019 so for me it is definitely a positive thing. I feel like I probably needed that time to switch off a little bit. Having that time enabled me to refocus a lot earlier than I expected to be honest.

“Like I say, I feel ready and focused. So when that first game does come it’s good to know you have done almost six weeks of training beforehand. It will definitely be a positive.

“I think, well I have definitely not had that much rest before in a summer break, so it was a little bit strange at first and I had to adjust my program a little bit, make it a little bit longer, so I could come in with a positive look on everything, and like I say we are excited to go away [on tour] now.

It wasn’t just Rashford that suffered a disappointing season. As a club, Man Utd failed to live up to expectations.

They finished sixth in the league, and also failed to make a statement in the domestic cups or Champions League.

But fans believe that new boss Ten Hag can help the Red Devils return to former glory. A positive summer transfer window will also help achieve this.

Rashford echoed these thoughts, as he stated that a fresh start is exactly what everyone at the side needs.

He said: “You feel every day now you are getting that one step sharper and one step fitter to being ready for the season. It is a fresh start for everyone and for me personally. I have had quite a long break, a nice camp before coming back into training. We are starting off on the right foot.”

The new boss will take charge of his first game in Bangkok, as Man Utd face Liverpool on July 12th.
