Marcus Rashford dropped by Man United over ‘disciplinary’ issues, explains Erik ten Hag

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been dropped for today’s game at Wolves because of "internal disciplinary" reasons, manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed.

Rashford was a surprise name on the bench at Molineux earlier today, having enjoyed a fine World Cup with England and scoring upon his return to United in a comfortable win over Nottingham Forest.

But Ten Hag soon explained why, with the striker being disciplined for reasons which the manager would not expand upon, adding only on BT Sport that it was “our rules”. Rashford later confirmed he “overslept” and missed a team meeting, hence why he was not in the starting lineup.

Rashford scored three goals for England at the World Cup, where Gareth Southgate's men reached the quarter-finals.

The 25-year-old had been in good club form since his return to domestic action, finding the net in each of the last two games - including a fine individual effort in the Carabao Cup fourth-round win over Burnley.

Young star Alejandro Garnacho was given the nod in Rashford’s place, starting alongside Anthony Martial and Antony.
