Marcus Rashford could be set for an ahead-of-schedule return for Manchester United.

The England forward revealed that he is set to start contact training as soon as next week after a meeting with the club’s medical staff on Friday.

Rashford has been recovering from a shoulder operation but could be back for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side after the upcoming international break.

“Happy Monday. I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation [sic],” Rashford tweeted.

“All being well, I will get the green to join in with contact training again.”

The 23-year-old has been training at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground for several weeks but has been unable to take part in contact work with his teammates.

While Solskjaer hailed Rashford’s “hard work” to get back to fitness last week, the Norwegian said that any return was likely to come after the break for international fixtures, which fall either side of the weekend of the 9th and the 10th of October.

Manchester United’s first game after the international break is against Leicester at the King Power Stadium on October 16 in the Premier League.

Rashford’s return will give Solskjaer further selection headaches at the top end of the pitch despite indifferent recent form.

Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are also competing for two places in United’s four attacking spots alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, with Paul Pogba also often used in a more advanced role.
