Marcus Rashford thrilled after helping raise four million meals for most vulnerable in UK

Marcus Rashford scored on the pitch for Manchester United last night in their 2-2 draw with Southampton, but his impact off it continues to be more profound after helping to provide four million meals to vulnerable households across the United Kingdom.

The England forward, who helped push Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reverse a decision to end free school meal vouchers this summer, has continued working with charity Fareshare UK.

And the food charity has teamed up with Rashford to help feed people in need during the coronavirus pandemic, with the 22-year-old confirming the latest milestone achieved by the collaboration.

He said in a post on Twitter: “Fareshare UK is now able to supply enough food to provide 4million more meals to the most vulnerable across the UK.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you! We couldn’t do it without you.”

Rashford was inspired to make a difference having previously relied on the scheme when he was growing up.

And the campaign saw the government agree to retain the £120m scheme.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Rashford wrote on Twitter in June. “Just look at what we can do when we come together, THIS is England in 2020.

“To all MPs: This was never about me and you, this was never about politics, this was a cry out for help from vulnerable parents all over the country and I simply provided the platform for their voices to be heard.

“I stand proud today knowing that we have listened, and we have done what is right.

“There is still a long way to go but I am thankful to you all that we have given these families just one less thing to worry about tonight. The wellbeing of our children should ALWAYS be a priority.”
