Carlos Vinicius scored a hat-trick and Alfie Devine became Tottenham’s youngest ever goalscorer as Jose Mourinho’s side thrashed eighth-tier Marine to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The 161 places between the two sides represented the biggest gap in the competition’s history and Spurs made their class show as Lucas Moura also found the net in a 5-0 win.

The Merseysiders almost got off to a dream start when Neil Kengni’s long-range effort was misjudged by Joe Hart and clanged back off the crossbar, but Vinicius opened the scoring with a tap-in after good work from Dele Alli soon after and from there an upset never looked likely.

Vinicius doubled the lead six minutes later with another simple finish into an empty net after Matt Doherty’s effort had been well saved by Bailly Passant, and by half-time he would complete his hat-trick with a smart effort that found the top corner. In between, Lucas added his name to the scoresheet with a terrific free-kick.

At half-time, Mourinho handed a debut to Devine, who, at the age of just 16 years and 163 days, became the club’s youngest ever player. He stole the goalscorer record, too, midway through the second-half with a powerful near-post strike.
