Mark Robins hailed a really “special” performance from his Coventry City players who, he says, have set the “template” for the rest of the season.

The Sky Blues came back from two first half goals against Luton Town with Ellis Simms and Victor Torp getting the home side back on level terms before Haji Wright popped up with a stoppage time winner to secure only their third Championship win of the season and lift the club out of the bottom three in the process.

“It was a really special performance because I don’t think we deserved to go one down, never mind two down,” said the City manager after the brilliant 3-2 win at the CBS Arena.

“Even at 2-1 down I turned around and said to the staff, whatever happens this is a template for what we need to do moving forward. It was high energy, determined and it had a lot of quality as well.

“Luton had two opportunities to score and they took them both because of the decisions we made. We seem to make elementary decisions and get punished for them and there’s just no rhyme nor reason for it. But communication, desire... it was all there on show apart from two moments.

“I thought we defended really well against their front two (Adebayo and Morris) and I think we played as well against them as we have ever. It’s only the second time we have beaten them in the time we have been playing against them and I thought we were thoroughly deserved winners. To a man they played their part.

“There were some top, outstanding performances and some really brilliant elements to the performance and all of the contributions were really good. I thought we were calm and played to what the game gave us. We turned them, ran after it, put them under pressure and you could see that they’d played on Wednesday, which is what we didn’t do against Swansea, but it was everything we didn’t do in the Swansea game and we were outstanding, to a man.”
