The countdown is on until the start of the new Premier League season. Mikel Arteta's side narrowly missed out on top-flight glory but will back themselves to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool once again in 2024/25.

To make this possible, Arteta will likely need certain improvements being made to the first-team squad as he looks to add further quality into the ranks. The Gunners have been linked with a host of names already this summer, and the transfer window is yet to officially open, ensuring plenty more links are expected to emerge.

Investing in the attack may well be the priority for sporting director Edu, who will be keen to strike smart deals that will enable the club to comply with Profit and Sustainability rules. As transfer talk continues, we have rounded up some of the latest gossip relating to the Gunners below.

Martin Zubimendi update

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is someone Arsenal have been admirers of in recent times.

football.london reported in 2023 that the Spaniard was being tracked by the Gunners ahead of the January window. The midfield department has been an area frequently linked with change, despite the arrival of Declan Rice last summer.

The 25-year-old is under contract until 2027, meaning the Gunners are unlikely to strike a cut-price deal for his services this summer, and is believed to be protected by a release clause worth €60million (£51m).

And his manager recently admitted he expects Zubimendi to go nowhere, stating: "There have been rumours about Zubi with many big teams. He is a great player; this year he showcased it in the Champions League. There has been a lot of talk for many weeks, which is good for the club and for the kid. Surely next year he will be here."

But a latest report by The Athletic has stated Arsenal remain "very interested" in the Sociedad star, with Arteta a "keen admirer" of his talent.

football.london says: This would be a brilliant signing if Arsenal are able to pull it off. Such an addition would boost competition for places within the side, forcing the squad members to maintain high performance levels at all times or risk losing their place. At a price of £51m, this would surely be a no-brainer for the Arsenal board.

Winger approach

Arsenal are believed to have made an approach for Girona winger Viktor Tsyhankov.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a productive La Liga campaign last term, scoring eight goals and registering seven assists as his club secured a Champions League place.

Spanish outlet AS have explained Arteta is "in love" with the Ukrainian and is of the view he would "fit perfectly" into his team. The above article adds the player has a release clause of €30m (£25m), which clubs can take advantage of.

football.london says: Tsygankov was a key part of Girona's successful season and could be a player worth taking a punt on during the transfer window. Prior to playing in Spain, he represented Dynamo Kyiv for seven years, ensuring this would be the biggest move of his career by some way. Whether or not the forward would be able to meet the demands of the Premier League is a factor that must be taken into account.
