Mason Mount latest: Now Man City join Man Utd and Liverpool as suitors
Premier League champions Manchester City are being named as potential suitors for Mason Mount along with Liverpool and Manchester United.
Mount and Chelsea are at a ‘stalemate’ when it comes to contract negotiations that ‘were effectively put back to square one’ after the World Cup, when Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly handed negotiations to co-sporting director Paul Winstanley.
Now the Daily Telegraph correspondent Matt Law – whose contacts at Chelsea are unrivalled – claims that there is ‘interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City’ and also from overseas, despite a season in which he has scored just three Premier League goals.
Chelsea have won their last three games despite Mount’s absence from a bruised pelvis, though he made himself available for the Premier League clash with Leicester but coach Graham Potter decided not to take that risk.
There had been some suggestion that Mount is being left out of the side due to the stalled contract talks, with Fabrizio Romano unhelpfully saying: “I have no confirmation on the speculation [Mason Mount being fully fit], but for sure the contract situation isn’t helping Mount right now. It’s not an easy negotiation for the new contract.”
Former Premier League defender Alan Hutton claims that Mount may leave Chelsea with a ‘sour taste in his mouth’, telling Football Insider: “I would not like to think that he is not being picked over contract talks. You would like to think that you can keep that separate.
“What goes on in the backroom with the hierarchy and your agents and stuff should not really affect you as a player.
“He is obviously asking for a big contract He understands that the boys coming in are probably getting paid very well and he probably feels that he is on that level.
“That is something for him and his agents and the club to deal with.
“I think if he was to leave because of this, of course you leave with a sour taste in your mouth. That is your team, you want to play there.
“He probably looks at the likes of Reece James and how quickly they got it sorted and that is what he wants. So it is a shame that it has got to this.”
