Kazakhstan team news to follow...
Aiden McGeady, Darren O'Dea and Robbie Keane all had lengthy trips to Ireland before flying all the way to Kazakhstan but Giovanni Trapattoni says he has not witnessed any fatigue in training. Sunderland winger James McClean was a doubt due to a cold but was fine to travel, though Simon Cox is expected to start ahead of him. With Keith Andews suspended and Darron Gibson withdrawing his services, the team has been confirmed as: Westwood, Ward, O'Dea, St Ledger, O'Shea, Cox, McCarthy, Whelan, McGeady, Walters and Keane.
Miroslav Beranek: "We are outsiders, but we don't want to play like outsiders. Football has developed a lot in the 18 months that I've been here, the quality of the game, the tempo."
Giovanni Trapattoni on a long journey for his side: “I was a player. I flew to Brazil. I played in the World Cup and it’s not easy but when you are young you have energy and I think it’s important that if you have the right mentality then you can recover. We’ll stick with Irish time. In the next game in London against Oman we have the possibility of giving the other group [a chance]. But these 90 minutes, this situation should not be a problem. Before, I played Austria on a Sunday and then in the Maracana on the Wednesday. It was 10 hours of travel but I was 22 years of age – not old like you and me!”
Kazakhstan 5/1, Ireland 8/13, Draw 13/5.
