Matt Baker returned to The One Show this week to announced details of the 2021 Rickshaw Challenge, as the BBC's Children in Need appeal draws ever closer.

The former One Show presenter, who departed the series last year, is back with another gruelling physical challenge to raise money for Children in Need – only this year, the format is a little different.

Marking his return to the studio yesterday (October 18), Matt revealed that the Rickshaw Challenge has a "new home" in the form of a "one-off documentary" that will air on Wednesday, November 10.

Teasing the special episode, Matt promised viewers that they'll get to see the same "trials and tribulations" of the week's "epic" bike-ride as usual, with a new "phenomenal" team in place.

"Our One Show viewers have just been spectacular in raising so much money, and obviously we need them this year more than ever," he added.

The one-off episode, called The Great Rickshaw Relay Challenge, will follow the presenter as he rides across the UK passing the 'rickshaw baton', as he meets five inspiring young people who will each take on their own hometown leg of the route.

"The idea is – let me tell you, there's nothing more special than when a young rider rides this through their hometown and they get to do it in front of their friends and family – so the heart of this year's challenge is that [I'll] take the rickshaw to them," he explained.

"Give them the opportunity to have that moment, a life-changing moment. We'll be riding right across the UK. I'm really excited."

This year's Rickshaw Challenge will take place between Monday, November 1 and Friday, November 5, with daily updates airing on BBC One's Morning Live.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
