Matt O'Riley Atalanta transfer transfer interest 'ended' after Celtic hold firm

Atalanta have ended their interest in Matt O'Riley and moved onto an alternative, according to reports in Italy.

The Serie A side have had multiple offers for the Celtic midfielder turned down after starting at £15million and gradually increasing their bids, with the Hoops holding out for at least £25m. It had been reported earlier this week that the Italians were getting close to the valuation and were confident of finally doing a deal.

However, Football Italia now say they have dropped their interest after being frustrated in their attempts. Udinese's Lazar Samardzic has also been in their sights and it is claimed they will now pursue the Serb instead of O'Riley.

It is believed they will pay an initial £17m but that could rise to £23m with various add-ons, meaning they save a a few quid by going for him instead of the Celtic ace. The move is thought to be imminent with Samardzic left out of Udinese's squad for their league opener against Bologna.

We told earlier today how Celts had reportedly told Atalanta their asking price had gone up. They were now asking for €30million (£25million) plus €5million (£4million). The latest offer from Atalanta was for €27million (£23million).
