Matt O'Riley's dreams of landing a Euro 2024 call-up have been shattered after the Celtic star was left out of the Denmark squad.

National coach Kasper Hjulmand today announced his 26-man squad for the Germany showpiece and O'Riley was hoping to get the nod. The Hoops playmaker had put himself into contention after an outstanding season at Parkhead, supplying 37 goal contributions across all competitions to help inspire Brendan Rodgers' side to Double glory.

However, O'Riley's sensational form has failed to earn him a ticket for the plane to Germany after the 23-year-old was left out of the final selection. The news will come as a bitter disappointment for O'Riley, who has two caps to his name after breaking into the international fold over the last year.

O'Riley has taken his game to another level in the Scottish Premiership this season and even produced a Man of the Match performance in October's 2-2 Champions League thriller with Atletico Madrid.

That convinced Diego Simeone to launch a big-money January offer for the midfielder, which was immediately booted out by Parkhead chiefs as Celtic fought for Premiership and Scottish Cup success. However, the Spanish heavyweights are expected to return to the table with a fresh bid this summer which could force the Hoops' hand as they hold out for a Scottish transfer record fee.

The news also comes on the same day when O'Riley was named the most valuable player in the history of the Scottish top-flight.
