Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham have proved they are ready to capitalise on any mistakes Chelsea make during the Premier League run-in.

Spurs secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Burnley this afternoon, with Eric Dier and Heung min-Son on target for the injury ravaged north Londoners.

Three points at Turf Moor - coupled with Chelsea's surprise defeat to Crystal Palace - saw Spurs cut the Blues' lead at the top of the table to just seven points with just nine games left to play.

Pochettino's side are firmly back in the hunt for silverware and the Argentine coach is determined to ramp up the pressure on the division's pacesetters.

"This win is massive for us - we have to be there if Chelsea fail and we are there. We are fighting for the Premier League," Pochettino insisted.

"When you reduce the gap to seven points it's completely different to 10 points - we just have to be there if Chelsea fail and want to be there until the end of the season.

"Sometimes you need some luck. You must do your job and be there if something happened and we showed today we are there."

Tottenham's victory was soured somewhat by a serious injury to Harry Winks and Pochettino confirmed that the midfielder was taken to hospital after being stretchered off.

The north Londoners are back in action against Swansea in midweek and Pochettino has urged his players to be ready for another battle.

"Today was very tough and Wednesday we have another tough game against Swansea. If we have the same energy and fight we can compete," he added.
