Mauricio Pochettino: Manchester United willing to be patient with PSG boss keen on Old Trafford move

Manchester United will give themselves time to land Mauricio Pochettino – with a growing belief that the Argentine is interested in taking over at Old Trafford.

United’s hierarchy have decided to wait until the summer to find a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked on Sunday.

That would allow Pochettino the chance to complete the season with Paris Saint-Germain, who are 11 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and one win away from securing qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The former Tottenham manager has long been interested in a job at United and has the backing of influential figures at Old Trafford.

It is believed he is unhappy with elements of his role at PSG, which could pave the way for a return to the Premier League.

United are keen not to rush into a decision and will instead focus on appointing an interim boss until the end of the season. But both they and Pochettino are aware of the mutual interest.

With executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward set to step down next month, it will be up to his successor to make the next permanent appointment.

Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Ralf Rangnick all have admirers at United and are considered candidates.

But the immediate priority is an interim coach who can avoid the season going into free fall. Former United defender Laurent Blanc has been suggested.

If Pochettino was willing to push for an exit sooner it could change the situation, but it is believed he would prefer to see out the season at PSG.
